Style: 2010

The Marker Apollo System Jacket offers two perfectly integrated jackets for the ultimate in foul-weather protection. This 3-in-1 jacket has a fully functional shoftshell liner that can be zipped out to wear on its own on, worn zipped into the GORE-TEX® jacket as an insulating layer, or you can wear the GORE-TEX® jacket without the added insulation as a waterproof shell. The removable shoftshell jacket liner is made out of water-resistant fleece that makes an ideal insulating layer or can be worn as an outer layer for lightweight protection. The windproof outer jacket is made of GORE-TEX® for guaranteed waterproofing that also releases heat vapors produced during high activity. The zippers are waterproof and all of the seams are fully taped so you won't need to worry about moisture leaking in during stormy weather. The outer jacket also has pit zips and core vents, which are essential for dumping excess heat so you don't overheat and perspire. The PowderShield connection links the GORE-TEX® outer jacket's hem with Marker pants for head-to-toe protection. Otherwise, the powder skirt will help keep snow from reaching your waist. Skiers who prefer backcountry conditions will appreciate the RECCO technology, which uses a reflector and detector to pinpoint your location for faster avalanche rescue.

Oh Marker Apollo Jacket, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Excellent craftsmanship; you can tell the manufacturer paid attention to every detail. The stitching is excellent, zippers work perfectly, this is a garment that will last for years with the proper care. The design of the shell is refined, functional and classic and should not go out of fashion. I ordered the ''fiery red'' shell, which has a dark charcoal colored softshell liner that can be worn on its own. It has an athletic cut and probably won't accommodate a heavy sweater too well, but a 100-weight polartech fleece will layer fine underneath. Although the shell has features specific to skiing, such as a back pocket for goggles and a goggle-wiping cloth that is attached to the inner front pocket with a spandex cord, the shell can be used for just about any outdoor activity, including mountaineering. I am really impressed with this garment. It exceeded my expectations and is of higher quality than anything I have seen from Patagonia, North Face, or Mountain Hardware. One thing I should mention is that the neck does not have a drawstring, and on cold days you will want to make sure you have a neck gator to seal out the wind.
