Q:
"I'm am trying to decide which Spyder Jacket to purchase. The leader or the bromont. I want to know it the extra $200 is worth the Bromont. I tried on both and liked them both, but I liked the bromont a bit more. Its just pretty explensive, and I snowboard only a hand full of times throughout the year, maybe 10. Any advice?"
1 Answers | Answer Question
Question by Sean O on 12/31/2011 - 1:47 pm
A:
"The difference is in the materials chosen for each jacket. The Bromont has Primaloft a higher quality insulation and OSMO® technology that is equivalent to a 20,000 waterproof rating. While the Leader has Thinsulate as insulation and Xt.L™ fabric which is a waterproof laminate. "

Q:
"I'm trying to decide between the leader and Cosmos, any extra advice and can these products ship to Australia ? Thanks."
1 Answers | Answer Question
Question by dklein on 8/1/2012 - 7:26 pm
A:
"Let me start off by saying that one jacket is not better than the other. The Leader jacket is going to be warmer than the Cosmos. It has 100g of insulation compared to only 60g in the Cosmos. It is also a little bit longer and has more of an athletic fit to it. The Cosmos jacket is made from a different fabric that has more breathability to it. This jacket would be for a skier who might be very active and produce more body heat during times of high activity. The lower amount of insulation and higher breathability rating would keep the skier cooler and let the more moisture be released from the jacket. The cosmos has more of a relaxed fit to it. We are unable to ship Spyder internationally due to vendor agreements. If you have a friend here in the states we can ship it to them and they can ship it to you."

Q:
"Thanks for answering yesterdays question, i have one more concerning the feel of the outer material, the leader jacket has a slightly rougher (tougher)feel than say the sentinal which has a smooth feel, I like the rougher feel better, What is the feel of the Rival and Cosmos ?, thanks heaps for your help."
1 Answers | Answer Question
Question by dklein on 8/2/2012 - 8:33 pm
A:
"The Rival jacket is made from the same fabric as the Leader so they will feel the same. The Cosmos is made from OSMO fabric which does has almost the same feel as the other jackets, however, it is just a little bit softer. "

Q:
"How durable is the Spyder Leader jacket ? If one would want to wear this as an everyday winter jacket with no skiing or snowboarding ...would the jacket be more ( with a layer ) and how many years / seasons do you think it would last"
1 Answers | Answer Question
Question by Dave on 10/21/2012 - 11:14 am
A:
"This is absolutely a durable jacket. Spyder jackets are purchased by tons of people who use them as everyday winter jackets. How long it lasts depends on you. How are you going to care for the item? How are you going to store it when not in use. Many different variables can affect how long the jacket will last so we cannot predict for you how long it will last but with the proper care, will definitely last you quite a long time. "

Q:
"Hi, I am deciding between the Spyder Leader vs the Spyder Vyper jacket. Is the Leader considerable warmer ? Would the Vyper still be considered a warm jack if wearing 2 layers underneath ? Any other considerable differences ? Thanks,"
1 Answers | Answer Question
Question by Marty on 5/15/2013 - 8:09 pm
A:
""Here, you are looking at a much older version of the Leader, so the first thing we need to do is look at a current model as the specs are different on the new version vs the old one. The current Leader jacket has 100g of Thinsulate insulation, so it is considerably warmer than the Spyder Vyper which only has 60g. Yes, you can add layers to the Vyper to make it just as warm as the Leader. Or, you can add layers to the Leader to make it super warm. It all depends on how much warmth you need/want. We've listed all of the features for each jacket so that you can compare the differences in each jacket and decide which one fits your needs appropriately.""

Excellent Jacket, but not Gore-Tex like before   Rated: 4/5

I own several Spyder Jackets, including two Spyder Leader Jackets. The older version had a Gore-Tex shell, and feels more durable. The 2012 version fits a little smaller. It's nevertheless very warm and fully waterproof. Objectively, I think this is an excellent jacket, but the older versions just seemed better.
