What are core vents in relation to pit zips? Which are more effective? (I am familiar w/ and use pit zips)

Core vents are on the side of the torso pretty much by the ribs.

The Recco system pretty much shoots off a wave signals from your jacket that rescues can detect when looking for people trapped in a snow after an avalanche.

This jacket does not come with a specific pant. We do have many solid colored North Face pants that would go great with this jacket. Check out the The North Face Riderarchy Insulated Ski Pant style #ATPF.

The North Face does not give a waterproof rating on this jacket however they do say that The North Face® HyVent® clothes are highly waterproof and breathable and deliver long-term performance.
