    Q:
"Hi Grace, Thanks for your speedy reply! And, I understand and read the description - re: the breathability rating being at 5K and the insulation being 150g body/ 100g sleeve MaxDegree insulation - BUT- I don't know what all that means. Grams of what? Down? Polyester? And do you know what specific temperature it keeps you warm at? Thanks for your help! Judy"

    A:
"There are two mayor kinds of insulation Down (made of the fluffy undercoating of a bird's plumage) and synthetic insulation which there are dozens of different names on the market. Usually insulated jackets have 60g + of insulation. Ski jackets come with 80g or more. So anything that is over 100 g is consider to be very warm. The highest insulation rating I've seen is 200g but that is for extreme weather protection. The waterproof rating means how many times the pores on the fabric are smaller than a molecule of water so higher the number the better. Ski jackets start at 5K, like this one, and all the way up to 20K. Breathability is the capacity that the material has to let warm air and moisture escape from your body and the garment, that way you wont overheat and start sweating."

"Judy, this jacket is excellent for really cold days. The waterproof and breathability rating are low at 5K which is just fine for a street wear jacket. The insulation is very very warm 150g body/ 100g sleeve MaxDegree insulation. This jacket is flattering and will keep you warm. "
