This jacket would work really well for that type of activity! You should also wear a next to skin thermal such as the Snow Angel Cybersilk Crew Thermal Top. One more top layer such as the Patagonia Synchilla Fleece Vest would also be recommended depending on the temperatures you're going to be in.

Does the jacket rustle (make noise) as you move?

This jacket is not a soft shell jacket and will have make some noise. However, it will not be as loud compared to a wind breaker.

Like this coat

My daughter really liked this jacket. We got a small and it is a bit large for 5'4" 110lbs without a sweater, but it fits perfect with a sweater.
