This jacket actually does not have the drawstrings.

The Solstice is a great jacket for the winter. It does not have a powder skirt and vents which is great for skiing, but it will work well for everyday winter use.

HOw do you roll up and attach the hood to jacket? I have a tie string at the back of the collar. Do you use that to attach something? Thanks

Does the insulation make it appear bulky or does it have the appearance of a shell?

It will be something in between. The insulation that it has is not as bulky as down fill. Anyways a shell jacket is only a few layers or waterproof and breathable material and it will definitely be thinner than any insulated jacket.
