There is some flexibility so it should move with your foot a bit and not be completely rigid.

What makes the lacing system speedy and unique, as opposed to that of regular lace-up boots?

This boot uses a D-Ring lacing system which makes it easier to lace up and take off. You could compare it to the UGG Adirondack II Boots which have a normal lace up system to see the difference.
