Fire and Ice runs a little bit small. You should try the medium.

Is the fire and ice fleece warmer than a merino wool base layer.. like smart wool? I am purchasing the Bianca jacket and want a good base layer for Colorado ski conditions.

I would recommend staying with the Merino wool. It is made from a natural material which is going to wick moisture away from your body better than any synthetic such as fleece.
