I'm an intermediate skier that likes to do the occasional black diamond. This is a great boot for people with wider feet but low volume ankles.
The 'Contour 4' is actually quite noticeable, and without it, I'd have to find a roomier boot that would offer less control. This boot literally feels like it is shrink-wrapped around my foot. The increased level of control this boot gives me is amazing, and makes it noticeably easier for me to make turns. My last trip, it gave me enough confidence to explore a few of the double-black diamonds at Meadows Ski Resort located at Mt. Hood, OR.
Since the ankle is low-volume and the lower portion of the shell is very stiff, it's not the easiest boot to get into. However, it's something I'm happy to live with if it means I get a boot that fits like a glove. The heel and toe are actually sloped a little, which makes walking around in them MUCH easier. The inner boot has a plastic plate built into the shin which does a very nice job of reducing shin bang.
I definitely recommend ordering from Peter Glenn. When they first sent me the pair of boots, one of them had the wrong inner boot. Their customer service was very responsive, and they managed to ship me a new pair of boots just in time for my upcoming ski trip the following weekend.
