Burton 2009

Burton 2009 Preview

As the 2009 snowboarding season approaches, Burton maintains its distinction as the top-selling board, boot and binding company in the world. And their 2009 crop of gear and clothing shows why: Burton constantly creates new technologies that make snowboarders' lives way better.

The biggest Burton tech news for the 2008/2009 season is that Burton will bring the user-friendly ICS Board and EST Binding innovations to the masses. We humbly say, thank you.

Boards and Bindings

In 2008, Burton unveiled their ICS and EST board-and-binding interface, which revolutionized the way riders mount their bindings and adjust their stance angles. Unfortunately, this was high-end tech, only available on a couple of boards and bindings for the guys, and just one board and no bindings for women.
What is ICS? What is EST?

For 2009, Burton has greatly expanded their ICS and EST offerings, so, no matter what your size or riding style, you can enjoy the sweet ride and incredible convenience of Burton's latest developments. Hooray!

You'll find ICS technology on the following 2009 Burton boards at Peter Glenn:

Bindings

Burton makes some of the best bindings on the market, and this year they outdid themselves. Adding EST to the CO2 binding to make the CO2EST, Burton also completely overhauled the P1 binding, making the P1.1 30% lighter than the old P1. Then, there's the extra-blingy Custom Yo limited edition bindings. The ladies get the new Escapade EST and Lexa EST.

New Capstraps: The super-comfy capstrap has been made more comfortable, more responsive and lighter. The newUltra Capstrap locks you in tighter than, "Fat Albert in a leotard". If yoou want to kick it old school, you can ride the new Ultra Capstrap like a conventional toe strap.

Several bindings received updates for 2009:

  • The C60 now features Ultra Capstrap and weighs 50% less than last year's model.
  • The P1.1 features all new straps, padding hi-backs, baseplates for a softer feel, but greater edge-to-edge responsiveness and weighs 30% less.
  • The 2009 Women's Lexa binding gets the new Ultra Capstrap anda Living Hinge hi-back for increased comfort and support.
  • The 2009 Stiletto has been revamped to provide more stability and control, so you can charge even harder.

Outerwear: Burton Goes Green Mountain

New to the Burton Clothing arsenal for 2009is the GMP collection. This group of products, part of Vermont's Green Mountain Project, are made from recycled polyester and environmentally-friendly materials. In other words, these jackets, pants and gloves do more good than harm when they are made at Burton factories. You'll feel good and so will the little forest creatures.

Burton's Slim Fit, Sig Fit and Team Fit

Burton AK Collection

The 2009 Burton AK continues to represent Burton's most technicalpieces of outerwear. For 2009, AK keeps true to their tech roots with GORE-TEX® everywhere. But they also stick to their 80's roots with neon all through the line. That's right, Burton brought back many of the raddest colors from the 80's. Burton pro riders like Jeremy Jones and Tadashi Fuse rock signature AK pieces this season.

Burton Ronin

For 2009, Burton's team added some of the raddest styles yet to the Ronin Line. Sublimated graphics appear on one-piece snowboard suits, and there's even collaboration with Playboy in the mix. An though Ronin traditionally has a baggier fit, this season there are a fewpieces with breathtakingly slim fits. Burton pros like Mason Aguirre can be spotted sporting Ronin this year.

Shaun White

In 2009 Shaun White spreads love to the ladies. That's right, White has added women's styles to his line. Also for 2009, Shaun White outerwear features slimmer fits for guys and girls, and is designed to fit teens best.

Burton Idiom

Finally, Burton'sIdiom collection is so freaking limited that you'll want to pounce on the first pieces you find. The Idiom line is on fire at high-end retailers from New York City to Japan. The Idiom collection draws inspiration from a minimalist aesthetic and down to details, design and innovation.

Other innovations for '09:

  • Link Zip jacket-to-pant interface. All 2009 Burton Jackets zip into 2009 Burton Pants. There's something to be said about the warmth of a one-piece, but snowsuits are a little inconvenient when nature calls.
  • Snap-Up Leg Lifts. Finally, no more shredded, dirty cuffs from walking through the parking lot. Step up and Sanp-Up and keep it clean.
  • 3 Different fits. Snowboarding sheds the 1990's baggy skater look! Burton introduces unique fits to their 2009 outerwear lineup. You can choose from the long, baggy Team fit, the relaxed and more traditional Sig fit or the trimand snug Slim fit.

Boots

Burton knows that without comfortable, supportive, durable boots, your board and bindings don't really matter. For 2009, Burton introduced the following technologies to their boot lineup.

  • Shrinkage Tech reduces boot bulk to put less material between you and your bindings, while keeping your feet toasty and comfy.
  • 1-to-1 Lasting for better fit. Burton's boot shells and liners come in half sizes, each with it's own specific liner. 1-to-1 lasting improves the boots overall fitand performanceand reduce weight significantly.
  • Speed Zone Express is so quick and easy that you only need one hand to tighten your boots.(what you do with the other hand is up to you.) Find Speed Zone Express on the Moto, Mint,m Ruler Smalls and Emerald Smalls.

Boot Updates:

The Ion, a classic high-performance All-Mountain Freestyle boot, has been completely overhauled this season so that it fits and performs even better with EST bindings. The RX Adjustable Cushioning System lets you put the gel or air cushion bag exactly where you want it in the sole. A new mid-sole lowers your center of gravity for a better board connection.

Women's Boots

Burton upped the ante for the ladies, too. The 2009 Women's Mint boots gain Speed Zone Express lacing, and Burton updated the shell on the Sapphire boot so it'll match your Coach handbags this season.

Kids' Boots

Even the kids are put into the ganme. Burton added Speed Zone Express lacing on their Ruler Smalls (formerly Speed Zone Grom) and the Emerald Smalls (formerly the Girl's Speed Zone Grom).

What is ICS?

ICS stands for Infinite Channel System. This technology is integrated into Burton's snowboards, and it enables you to dial in stance angles, stance width and toe-to-heel centering. You can adjust by millimeters to ensure you have the perfect position to optimize your riding. ICS boards are compatible with all Burton 3D bindings, but if you choose to ride and ICS board with EST bindings, you'll experience ultimate board feel and cushioning.

What is EST?

EST stands for Extra Sensory Technology. EST is a binding innovation that eliminates the need for a traditional baseplate, while providing a super-easy, super-quick way to attach your bindings to your board. By riding an EST binding on an ICS board, you create an infinite amount of binding widths, angles and adjustments. Indicators on the bindings allow you to see exactly what your positioning is. These bindings are extra cushy and allow you to feel the true flex from your ICS board. Something to note is that these bindings can only be used with ICS bobards, so be sure to check out the list above, as well as the features list to make sure you get a board that works with the EST bindings (and you'll get a far superior ride!).
